Manufacturer reference • CMI Safe Co
CMI offers different safe ranges for different requirements. Compare the precise model and supporting evidence, rather than choosing on the manufacturer’s name or the cabinet’s size alone.
This is an educational reference, not an ABETTA sales catalogue. Photographs are sourced from CMI and hosted on this website, with credits below. ABETTA does not generally sell safes.

Reference ranges and published manufacturer claims
| Range | Suggested unsupported cash rating | Published fire statement | Official source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miniguard | $20,000 | 30 minutes | Domestic safes |
| Homeguard Plus | $50,000 | 30 minutes | Domestic safes |
| Commerce | $100,000 | One hour | Commerce |
| Premier TDR | $250,000 | One hour | Premier |
These figures are CMI’s suggested insurable cash ratings for an unsupported situation, not insurance cover promised by ABETTA. The fire figures above reproduce the maker’s stated performance; this table does not assert independent fire certification. Confirm the current model, certificate evidence and insurer’s acceptance.
Homeguard Plus: plan for the exact size
The official brochure lists seven models. For example, HGA is 380 × 435 × 360 mm externally and 68 kg; HG1 is 650 × 435 × 360 mm and 104 kg. Dimensions are height × width × depth. The brochure asks buyers to allow a further 50 mm for handle projection and describes floor-anchor provisions and key, dial or digital lock choices. Read CMI’s Homeguard Plus brochure.
Those dimensions help plan storage and access; they do not establish the suitability of the floor or fixing method. For important cash and papers, compare its fire specification with the protection duration you have chosen.

Commerce: a useful next comparison
The Commerce brochure lists COM-A at 160 kg and COM-B at 250 kg, with larger models substantially heavier. It describes composite barrier construction, a glass-operated relocker and floor fixing provisions. This makes delivery, floor capacity and final placement part of the purchasing decision, not an afterthought. Read CMI’s Commerce brochure.
Important: “equivalent to” is not the same as certified
CMI’s Commerce brochure uses comparisons to UL TL-30 and ABIS Grade 2. We have not established independent certification from that wording. Do not relabel it as an independently certified EN 1143-1 Grade II safe or a UL-listed TL-30 safe without the relevant certificate and product record. Ask CMI or the supplier to explain the evidence and let the insurer assess it.
How to shortlist a CMI model
- Set the contents categories and maximum value first.
- Choose the required fire protection independently of the cash figure.
- Ask for the current model’s technical sheet and any independent certificates.
- Compare internal dimensions, shelf layout and door opening.
- Confirm the installed lock and applicable warranty.
- Obtain a site assessment and complete delivery/installation quote.
- Get the insurer’s acceptance before ordering.
Which range is best for me?
A range with a higher suggested cash figure is not automatically necessary for every buyer. Conversely, a range whose fire statement falls below your target is not a complete fit merely because its cash figure matches your holdings. Define the requirements and eliminate models that do not meet them before comparing price.
For a worked example, read choosing a safe for about $50,000. Compare the Jorgensen enquiry approach, read ratings explained or return to the buying guide.
