Which screen door lock is the better choice?
There is no single best model for every door. A replacement that looks similar from the handles can still have different fixing centres, lock-body dimensions, cylinder arrangements or three-point rod connections. The existing preparation usually matters more than the brand name on the old furniture.
The Lenlok can be a practical option where its lock body, strike and cylinder arrangement match the existing door. The Lockwood 8653 adds DualSelect® locking modes and LockAlert® status indication, and can be particularly useful where the existing preparation suits the 8653 platform or a compatible Whitco Leichhardt replacement.
Single-point or three-point locking?
A single-point lock secures the door at the main lock body. A three-point system adds upper and lower locking points operated from the main lock. Three-point locking can improve how the door is secured, but the rods, connectors, strikes and door alignment all need to match the selected lock. Existing three-point hardware should not be assumed compatible with a replacement lock simply because the centre lock fits.
Keying the screen door to other locks
Where the cylinder and key profile are compatible, it may be possible to key a replacement screen door lock to work with other suitable locks on the property. We check the existing key system before promising keyed-alike operation because Lenlok and Lockwood use different cylinder formats across these products.
Check the complete door before replacing the lock
A screen door that is hard to lock is not always suffering from a failed lock body. Door alignment, worn rollers, movement in the frame, a damaged strike or incorrectly adjusted three-point hardware can all make a serviceable lock feel faulty. Abetta checks the whole opening before recommending replacement where practical.
