Compatibility and configuration
The primary lock is a component, not necessarily a complete ready-to-install cylinder and furniture set. Depending on the function required, the installation may need separately selected cylinders, adaptors, cams, furniture, strike and other matching parts. Specify the inside and outside operation, keying and emergency egress requirements before ordering.
The 3782SS is the 23 mm universal primary lock. Confirm separately ordered cylinders, furniture and accessories against the required locking function.
Replacement and installation checks
Before replacing an existing mortice lock, confirm the backset, faceplate shape and dimensions, door material and thickness, cut-out, handle and cylinder positions, strike alignment, handing, locking function and applicable fire or egress requirements. A matching 23 mm backset alone does not establish interchangeability.
Construction, latching and door fit
The Selector 3782SS is built around a zinc-alloy case reinforced by stainless-steel chassis plates, with a stainless-steel faceplate. Its 15 mm stainless-steel latch is backed by a separate auxiliary deadlatching bolt. The reversible latch permits left- or right-hand and inward- or outward-opening installations, with the handing adjustment made while the lock remains in the door.
The curved latch profile is intended to improve closing action. When the main latch retracts, the auxiliary bolt retracts into the case as well. These mechanisms rely on accurate strike positioning and appropriate door/frame clearance.
Door dimensions and clearance
| Suitable metal door thickness | 35–50 mm |
|---|---|
| Suitable timber door thickness | 32–50 mm, using the applicable timber fixing arrangement |
| Aluminium hollow stile internal depth | At least 38 mm as specified by Lockwood for door sections; check the mounting drawing for the precise model’s routing clearance |
| Recommended door/frame gap | 3 mm for best deadlatching operation |
| Maximum stated functional gap | Deadlatching can operate up to 8 mm, although Lockwood discourages gaps above 5 mm |
| Timber fitting conversion | Lockwood 3782-TFKIT, containing the longer faceplate, matching strike and fixing screws |
| 38 mm / 30 mm backset rebate options | 13 mm rebate kits are offered for 30 mm and 38 mm models, not the 23 mm 3782SS |
Australian Standard classifications
According to Lockwood, the Selector 3780 series is tested to AS 4145.2:2008 with the following classifications. These describe the tested lock family; suitability of a complete door assembly still depends on its installation and components.
Physical security
With specified anti-drill cylinder and furniture
Durability
Corrosion resistance (168 hours)
Function settings and accessories
Function changes are made under the faceplate using Lockwood’s colour-guided red/green settings. Standard primary lock bodies support configurable anti-lockout and holdback behaviour. Anti-lockout is intended to help prevent accidental lockouts by automatically releasing the locked condition when the door closes or the latch is withdrawn; holdback can retain the latch for selected applications. Whether these features are appropriate depends on the chosen function and safety requirements.
The system uses Lockwood’s oval brass cylinders and relevant cam or adaptor for the required operating sequence. Standard Lockwood cylinders are described by the manufacturer as using a bump-resistant five-pin mechanism. Restricted or master-keyed options may be available through authorised systems; this does not mean a cylinder is included with the 3782SS body.
For wider doors, Lockwood offers modular cylinder extensions. Compatible electric strikes are available for selected applications, but the 3782SS itself is a mechanical mortice lock, not the separate 3782EL electric lock.

|---|---|---|---|
| 3782SS | 23 mm | 23 mm | 40 mm |
| 4782SS | 25.4 mm | 25.4 mm | 42.4 mm |
| 5782SS | 30 mm | 30 mm | 47 mm |

These are separate products and cannot be treated as interchangeable without checking the door preparation and furniture. Manufacturer dimension references should be read alongside the official installation drawings.
Common questions
Does this include a cylinder and handles?
It is listed as a universal primary mortice lock. The required oval cylinder, cams, adaptors and compatible furniture need to be specified for the completed lock function; do not assume they are included.
Will the 3782SS fit my existing aluminium door?
Possibly, but the backset, stile internal clearance, faceplate, fixing points, strike and handle/cylinder positions all need to match. Photos and measurements are recommended before ordering.
Can it work on a timber door?
Yes, within Lockwood’s specified 32–50 mm timber-door thickness range, with the correct 3782-TFKIT timber fixing kit and appropriate door preparation.
Can it be used for emergency escape?
The Selector range supports single-action escape functions, but the actual configuration, furniture, installation and building requirements must be checked for the doorway. Do not assume every assembled lock function qualifies for every exit.
Technical drawings and installation references
Use the manufacturer’s dimensioned drawings rather than measuring a screen image. These resources help distinguish lock-body dimensions, the 23 mm backset, the door cut-out and the correct timber or aluminium fixing method.
