Wide square-end mortice lock furniture

LOCKTON ART-SQ is a square-ended wide-plate mortice lock furniture family for compatible Australian commercial and residential mortice lock applications. It includes separate internal and external plates, oval-cylinder apertures, sprung levers, privacy or emergency turns, and selected indicator versions.

The range is intended to suit many 60 mm backset Australian-style mortice lock installations, subject to the actual lock function, spindle, cylinder and furniture fixing positions.

What makes ART-SQ suitable for commercial doors?

In the product codes, C is generally an external-side designation and V an internal-side designation. Do not substitute an external plate for an internal plate without checking the fitting system. All dimensions are millimetres.

Satin chrome (SCP) variants

Matte black (BLK) variants

Part numbers appear in supplier’s 2023 black-range brochure and subsequent current catalogue listings. The black-range brochure specifies 165 × 46 × 18 mm and 150 mm fixing centres.

Chrome and black appearance, including matching hardware

Satin chrome tends to complement stainless steel and traditional commercial handle sets, while matte black suits modern doors and coordinated black faceplates. For a complete colour-matched set, check the SG-ML60 mortice lock, oval cylinder finish, strike, faceplate, hinges and exit furniture separately. ART-SQ handles and plates alone do not replace the mortice locking mechanism.

When should you choose LEG-TON instead?

The key differences are plate size and mounting system. ART-SQ uses a 165 × 46 mm plate and 150 mm fixing centres, whereas LEG-TON has a 175 × 48 mm plate with alternative 148 or 158 mm fixing centres, and a specially designed interchangeable internal fixing insert. The different screw systems (M5 for ART-SQ, M4 for LEG-TON) matter when retaining an existing door’s preparation.

Before specifying or replacing furniture

1. Measure existing plate height, width, screw centre spacing and spindle/cylinder centre positions.
2. Photograph each side of the door, lock faceplate, existing handle, cylinder and any privacy or emergency release arrangement.
3. Confirm the actual mortice lock body, backset, spindle diameter, lever return spring and cylinder cut-out.
4. Check whether the selected set must allow lever-only exit, privacy snib operation or emergency turn access.
5. Where fire doors or accessibility-sensitive doors are involved, verify the entire tested assembly and relevant building requirements. Supplier fire and AS 1428.1 statements do not automatically approve every installation.
6. Check screw length and through-fixing before drilling. An existing 150 mm fixing footprint may still be obstructed by another mortice case.
