Where it is used and how it works
Anti-carding deep latching and concealed mounting reduce simple manipulation opportunities. The reinforced timber strike is supplied with longer fixings and there are additional mounting positions to help in suitable retrofit situations.
Holdback that adapts to the door
Unlike a basic night latch, the Pro’s holdback can be selected for clockwise or anticlockwise thumbturn operation, or removed from service. This matters when different doors or users require different holdback behaviour.
Privacy snib and anti-lockout
Carbine describes a push-in internal privacy snib that prevents outside key operation while engaged. Closing the door while the snib is already engaged releases the snib as an anti-lockout measure. The privacy setting can also be permanently disabled during fitting.

Replacement and installation checks
Night Hawk models use a nominal 60 mm backset and CRC 201-type rim cylinder interface where specified. Carbine’s installation instructions describe a 32 mm through-hole for a new rim-cylinder installation and require the gap between the lock and strike to be minimised and not exceed 5 mm. Exact markings and drilling must follow the original manufacturer template.
- Check door material, thickness, hinged opening direction and exact position of the existing lock.
- Take photos of the external rim cylinder, internal lock case, mounting area and frame strike, with a ruler where possible.
- Measure the original backset, cylinder centre, screw positions, strike clearance and damaged areas of the frame.
- Confirm if the customer expects self-latching, holdback, privacy or deliberate deadbolt locking.
- Check cylinder profile and matching restricted or master key system before quoting keyed-alike operation.
- Assess any fire door, emergency exit, accessibility or shared access requirements before changing lock function.

Frequently asked questions
Does it have adjustable holdback?
Yes. Pro offers clockwise, anticlockwise and off positions.
Can the latch be reversed?
Yes. Carbine describes reversal with a 2.5 mm Allen key to accommodate compatible opening directions.
Can the privacy snib be disabled?
Yes, as an installation configuration. Confirm the user’s operational needs first.
Can ABETTA rekey this lock?
Many suitable Carbine CRC rim cylinders can be rekeyed or selected for compatible keyed-alike and master-key applications. That depends on the actual cylinder, key profile and any restricted system controls. Send a picture of the existing cylinder and key rather than assuming compatibility.
